How much and long does each therapy session take?

Do you bulk-bill?

Initial session cost $280 (with Medicare rebate, out of pocket is 138.15)

Subsequent sessions are $250 (with Medicare rebate, out of pocket is 108.15)

Commencing 1 July 2024, Saturday appointments will incur an after-hours change of $15

Appointments are 50 minutes. I will spend the remaining 10 minutes to either call your GP or plan for our next session

I do not bulk-bill.

Please contact me to discuss your concerns about the affordability of therapy.

What can I expect in the first session?

The first session is a chance for me to get to know you, and understand what has brought you to therapy.

This means that I may ask many questions about your issues and your personal history. I may also administer some questionnaires to better understand your issues.

By the end of our first session, you and I will generally have established some shared goals for therapy, and will start to develop a treatment plan.

How many sessions do I need?

The number of sessions that will benefit you is dependent on the nature and extent of the issues for which you are seeking assistance.

Some people find attending therapy on a regular basis beneficial, and helps them better approach issues that present in daily life.

Others engage in therapy as a means to move towards identified outcomes, such as reducing the severity or the symptoms of depression or anxiety, or reducing distress caused by their issues.

This will be discussed further at your first session, where we can make plans to review your progress after a set number of sessions.

Do I require a referral?

A referral is not essential for an appointment. However, you may obtain a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP to be eligible for a medicare rebate of $141.85 (updated 1 July 2024), for up to 10 sessions per calendar year.

If you have private health insurance that covers sessions with a psychologist, you may be entitled to certain rebates. Your health fund will be able to provide you with further information about this.

You will not be able to claim both medicare rebate and private health insurance.

How often do I need to attend

Regular attendance at sessions is important in order to work towards goals and make progress in therapy. This will be discussed at the first session and on a ongoing manner with you.

What happens if I can't attend my appointment?

Please let me know as soon as possible.

An email reminder will be sent 3 days prior. Please note this service is a courtesy only, and you are responsible for remembering your appointment date/time. When less than 2 business days notice is given, or if you do not attend your scheduled session, a cancellation fee will apply.

However life does happen and naturally, emergency situations are understood and no fee will be charged in these circumstances

What appointment times are available?

As it can be difficult to make time to see a psychologist, I aim to be flexible and therefore offer appointments through out the week at Lane Cove

After-hours appointments may be available on request.

Telehealth sessions are also offered - please contact me to discuss your appointment needs
